These 2-ply handmade fabric face masks are sewn with various designs on tightly-woven 100% cotton. Depending on the design, the fabrics for the main part of the mask are organic cotton sateen and/or conventional woven cotton. The edges are wrapped with cotton or cotton/poly binding to provide channels for the ear loops. The ear loops are made with 1/4” knit elastic.
Adult-sized masks are 8” wide, and approximately 3.5” tall with the pleats closed. With the pleats fully opened, the mask from top to bottom measures just under 8” in order to extend from midway up your nose to under your chin. There are three pleats sewn into the mask. Non-rusting (galvanized steel) wire has been sewn into the nose bridge area, to allow for forming around your nose and prevent gapping below your eyes. All seams are back-stitched or double-stitched for durability.
The mask should be worn with the folds pointing down on the outside (CAVU tag will be on bottom left of your face).
These masks can and should be washed regularly. The CDC recommends washing in a washing machine. Please see the CDC’s latest guidelines on handmade mask wearing here.
*** Do NOT place a mask on a child younger than 2, a person with trouble breathing, or on anyone who is unable to remove it themselves. ***
Please note, these masks do not replace an N95 or other medical-grade mask. Those should be used and reserved for healthcare professionals. The intent of these fabric face masks is that they’re worn in situations where proper social distancing measures cannot be maintained.
